Laura und Owen
Die McCarthys von Gansett Island sind eine große Familie. Eltern, Kinder, Cousins, Cousinen und auch ihre guten Freunde gehören zu ihrem Leben und ihrer Gemeinschaft. Schon seit einiger Zeit hat Owen, der eigentlich nie länger an einem Ort zu hause ist, das Gefühl, bei Laura möchte er bleiben. Dass sie das Kind eines anderen erwartet und mit diesem auch noch verheiratet ist - egal, sie ist die Eine. Auch Laura geht es nicht viel anders, ihr künftiger Ex-Mann hat sich gleich nach der Hochzeit mit anderen Frauen getroffen und die Ehe ist somit sehr schnell zerbrochen. Laura ist dankbar, dass ihr der attraktive Owen durch die erste schwere Zeit ihrer Schwangerschaft geholfen hat.
Bei den Büchern um die McCarthys handelt es sich um eine Reihe, die unterdessen schon aus 12 Bänden besteht. Die Geschichten der verschiedenen Familienmitglieder und ihrer Freunde werden dabei warmherzig und fortlaufend erzählt. In jedem der Bücher tritt eines der Paare etwas mehr in den Vordergrund, doch auch die anderen werden nicht außer Acht gelassen. Deshalb mag es günstiger sein, die Bände in der vorgeschlagenen Reihenfolge zu lesen. Unterlässt man das, kann es geschehen, dass der Lauf der Geschichte etwas verworren wirkt. Vielen Pärchen und ihren Verwandten wird nahezu gleich viel Raum eingeräumt, wohingegen die vermeintlichen Hauptpersonen beinahe etwas zu kurz kommen. Ist man also nicht 100%ig in der Reihe drin, wird es doch eher unübersichtlich. Man fragt sich, wer sind die denn? Auch wenn manche sehr prickelnde Storys angerissen werden.
Es bleibt die sehr schön warmherzige Art der Autorin zu schreiben, die einen die Bücher gerne lesen lassen. Leider blitzte manchmal etwas zu wenig davon auf. Nichtsdestotrotz bleibt die Lektüre sehr unterhaltsam und weckt den Wunsch auf Gansett Island einmal Urlaub zu machen, was nur leider nicht möglich ist, da dieser schöne Ort vor Amerikas Ostküste der Phantasie der Autorin entsprungen ist.
