Vampirjägerin Junior
Victoria gehört zu einer alten Familie von Vampirjägern und nach zwei Trauerjahren um Vater und Großvater wird sie nun in die feine Londoner Gesellschaft eingeführt und auch in die Welt der Vampirjäger. Am Abend ihres Debüts soll sie ihren ersten Vampir töten, um ein Venator werden zu können. Ihre Mutter, die von Victorias geheimen Leben nichts ahnt, meint allerdings, Victoria müsse sich darum bemühen, den begehrtesten Junggesellen Londons zu umgarnen. Mit einiger Mühe gelingt Victoria beides und nun beginnt die Gratwanderung zwischen dem normalen Leben, das am ehesten aus der Suche nach einem passenden Ehemann besteht, und dem Leben immer auf der Suche nach dem Bösen.
Wie toll ist es schneller und stärker zu sein als die anderen jungen Frauen in London, denen der Sinn nur nach einer Kutschfahrt mit ihrem Beau steht. Das Böse zu bekämpfen, Vampire zu pfählen ist doch eine Aufgabe fürs Leben. Dieses Nachtleben muss doch mit einem Tagleben unter einen Hut zu bekommen sein. Victoria ist jung und mit Leichtigkeit widmet sie sich ihrer Aufgabe. Tante Eustacia und Cousin Max sind dabei eine große Hilfe. Und dann gibt es noch den geheimnisvollen Sebastian Vioget. Aber von ihrem Jugendfreund Philip Rockley kann und will sie nicht lassen. Nach und nach sickert in Victorias Gedanken und Gefühle die Erkenntnis ein, dass das alles doch kein Spiel ist.
Auch wenn einen das Buch vielleicht nicht zu 100% packt, ist die Beschreibung des langsamen Verlustes der jugendlichen Unschuld doch sehr berührend. So wie Victoria denkt man, es wird schon alles klappen. Doch schließlich muss man feststellen, dass sich nicht alles planen lässt und es nicht so einfach ist, mit der Lüge zu leben. Was kann die Familie aushalten. Fast könnte man es mit einem Geheimagenten vergleichen, der seiner Familie nicht von seiner Arbeit erzählen darf. Auch Victoria will ihre Lieben vor ihrer Welt der Nacht schützen und mit jedem Tag wird es schwieriger, sich plausible Erklärungen auszudenken. Diese langsame Erwachsen werden, dieses Erkennen, dass nicht immer alles so läuft, ist in dem Roman sehr gut beschrieben und lässt den Leser mitfühlen.
